speed and velocity

I used to think that velocity and speed were the same thing but it turns out that they have several differences

  1. velocity is a measurement of  speed over distance. if you drove 50 km and it took you 1 hour the math will tell you that the average speed of the trip would be 50 kph.
  2. since velocity is a measurement of  speed over distance that means that speed is a measurement of speed right now, so when your driving along a road and the speedometer says 100 kph that is current speed, but if you looked at the length after the trip and add the speed to the equation you will come up with your average velocity.

I’m hoping to do some controlled tests maybe eventually timing and measuring the speed and distance on a car trip!
